Surfing
The Maldives is known as the best kept secret in surfing! Limited crowds, great varieties of reef breaks, and some of the most perfectly shaped waves make this place any surfer’s fantasy! Your mom won’t worry about you losing your life while surfing here, because Maldivian waves lack the power that makes other locations so dangerous. Not only will you safely enjoy the surf, but also appreciate the glass-clear water while catching that barrel! Surfing in the Maldives is like riding through an underwater aquarium! The water temperature is a warm 80-89F (26-31C), while on land it varies between 80-91F (26-32C). Surfing is possible practically all year with the average wave height being 4-8 feet (2-2.5meters), however bigger days are experienced. The Southern Atolls (islands), where the biggest waves are found, have previously been off limits to surfers and only recently has surfing opened up. The waves here have reached 8 to even 12 feet (2.5-4 meters)! The surf in the Maldives is truly set after set of liquid perfection! You can enjoy these perfect waves at a surf resort or on a safari boat. |
