There’s a wide variety of food on this small island. Western and European style food can be found in Male’, as well as Asian dishes such as Chinese, Thai, Sri Lankan and Indian. Restaurants are usually clean with good service and a pleasant atmosphere. Prices range from US$1-$20.
Budget Travelers
For only US$1-$2 you can eat at tea shops, which offer rice, curry, several side dishes, hot tea, and snacks called “short eats.” Tea shops can be found on almost every road. However, these small restaurants are for men only. Maldivian women never enter tea shops and foreign women feel rather uncomfortable venturing inside. Women usually eat at cafés, which are a little more expensive and classier than tea shops.
